Its a dirty secret that hospitals have: patient orthopedic implant records get screwed up ALL the time. The problem is that that implant usage is not scanned. It’s manually recorded by the surgical technician, who has five or six other labor intensive tasks going on over and above trying to keep track of implants that have no identification or part numbers being passed back and forth to the surgeon.
